So you want to get plugged into The “Lawdawg Matrix” Eh???
First off you need a media player. I don’t care for Windows media player. I use Winamp (most popular) (www.winamp.com ). Easy to
use etc. etc. And if you want to “rip” the current CD collection or some of it into MP3 format on your harddrive, the best program
is probably, Musicmatch (www.musicmatch.com) . I might have to show you the details and stuff, but these programs are free and it will
allow you to play you MP3 collection as well as “rip” your current audio collection onto your HD as Mp3’s.
Now, as for music downloading.. Use at your own risk. Now I can truly care less about all of this talk of the music industry strong-arm,
the RIAA suing individuals that share music. You have to have a pretty large music portfolio shared on these peer-to-peer networks to truly
be a target for these jackoffs. I said my peace.
FYI – within the settings of each of these peer-to-peer networks, you can opt to not share your files. Some sites actually allow for the person
for whom is being downloaded from to cancel your download based on the fact that you’re not sharing. Doesn’t happen very often and I only share
like 30-50 songs at one time.
Morpheus is probably the best known and has the most users and files to be shared on the network. All types of files.. ALL TYPES.. Movies, audio, software,
….)

Imesh is another good one. I just think they are now requiring you to allow them to put a form of spam on your system to be apart of this peer to peer.
I’m not sure, but rule of thumb is to say NO to anything that says, “Imesh would like to send you promotions and blah blah blah”.. ALWAYS check the boxes that say no.
iMesh
WinMx is another good one with a bunch of files. It supposedly can not be shut down regardless of any lawsuits because there isn’t a way to figure out the source.. Too
techie for me to understand. But a good search program for audio.
WinMX
Bearshare, Limeware, and Grokster are others that you can try out. I haven’t used any of these in awhile, but I’ve heard they’re pretty solid too..
Great site for reviews and other info
Other Info
Other utilities to consider are Zonelabs (firewall). With a open cable modem connection, this might not be a bad idea.
Zone Labs
Ad-Aware is a great spyware/spam remover. A lot of things imbed themselves in your directories (some VERY GOOD) and ad-aware gets rid of a lot of it.

If you decide to go with winamp (which I highly recommend) you can go out to www.shoutcast.com and stream in music from all different kinds of genre’s! I love
shoutcast. Their smooth Jazz channel is awesome. They have hundreds of different sites. When you get familiar with it, I’ll show you how to download it while is streams in CD quality.
Other than that, if this is information overload, and you’re scared to configure some of these programs, get them downloaded into a folder and then let me know and I can stop by and configure them for ya.
